Emily and Jason Miller of Branch and Bloom Farms in St. Johns, MI

Our story

Hello there and welcome, we are Emily and Jason Miller, the owners of Branch and Bloom Farms.

As two traditional office employees, we never expected to find ourselves farming in any kind of capacity.

Jason has 20+ years of experience leading in the information technology space, while Emily has 10+ in digital marketing and creative design.

Although on different ends of the skills spectrum, we both found ourselves unifying under a single interest—farming.

For Jason it was trees, for Emily it was flowers, but for both of us, it was unexpected.

The act of getting outside, slowing down and seeing something grow came as a welcomed escape from our daily stress and monotony of staring at a computer.

As our passion grew, so did our respective crops. Jason has planted more than 300 trees and Emily has expanded her cut flower garden to fill just under a 1/4 acre.

As ambitious individuals tend to do, we both began dreaming of possibilities.

Full of ideas, we decided to launch a farmstand on our property to sell some of our crops.

Long term, we have purchased a 30 acre piece of property on US-127. We plan to eventually expand our operations and launch a larger retail and farm market experience.

Jason Miller

With more than 20 years in the computer industry, Jason Miller never expected to fall in love with orcharding.

Jason first grew an interest in chestnut trees after attending a small town Christmas event.

Amazed by their flavor and captivated by their nostalgic nature, Jason began to research the trees.

He soon learned that the entire crop of American chestnuts nearly became extinct in the early 1900s after the arrival of blight.

Intrigued by his findings, Jason purchased and planted his first few trees. The restful act of planting became a welcomed escape after the long days of stress as a CEO.

Since then, a handful of trees has turned into 300 and counting.

Whether working in the dirt or working on his computer company, Jason’s driving force remains the same—to build.

Emily Miller

Emily's life was always filled with a fascination of flowers, but she never realized how much.

Vacations were spent swooning over immaculate gardens and every creative endeavor she pursued had one thing in common—flowers.

Two summers ago, Emily decided to plant her own small cutting garden. Her aim was to create her own arrangements for art and replicate the joy of leaving her mother's garden with a freshly picked bouquet.

Emily was amazed at how much she enjoyed having her own flowers and quickly became hooked.

Since that summer, the size of Emily's cut flower garden continues to grow as does her love of having a place where she can escape to enjoy, unwind and create.
